TKFC 2007 Elite Team Advances to 2022 State Cup Quarterfinals

Congratulations to the TKFC 2007 Elite Team and Coach Brian Davis on their 2-0 win over Coppermine Premier in the Round of 16 of the 2022 Maryland State Cup! After a 2-2 draw with Coppermine just a few weeks ago in league play, our boys came to the rematch ready to make a statement. They broke through late in the first half when Yehuda Alvial headed the ball over the Coppermine goalkeeper on a beautiful free kick from Shelby Blanco. While the TK back line continued to turn away the Coppermine attack, our boys doubled their lead on another free kick from Blanco. The ball deflected back to Chris Ruiz, who crossed it back in toward goal, and the ball then fell to Alvial, who netted it to double the team’s advantage. There were some tense moments late in the game, but TK goalkeeper Gianni Shaw made a diving save on a Coppermine shot that was headed to the bottom corner to preserve the clean sheet. It was a great team effort from front to back, and the boys truly earned their way to the next round. The team will play a round-robin quarterfinals stage, with games against Bethesda SC Blue (#3 ranked team in Maryland), Potomac Blue (#5 in Maryland), and Takoma Park Napoly. The top two teams from the group will advance to the semifinals, so let’s keep it going boys!
